One decision I need from you on the calculator.

It is about whether we put savings dollars on the page. There is a right answer commercially and a risk attached to it, so I would rather you pick than me assume.

Where it is up to

The calculator works. Someone drags one slider to their bill, and the page works out their daily usage, the system size that suits it, the battery size and what the federal battery rebate is worth to them.

What it does not currently show is a savings figure. That was deliberate, and I want to explain why before you decide, because the obvious thing to add is also the thing that gets solar companies in trouble right now.

Why there is no savings number on it yet

The Clean Energy Regulator and the ACCC are both active on solar savings claims at the moment. The problem with a figure like "save $2,400 a year" is that it depends on four things we cannot know from a slider:

  • how much power the household actually uses, and when
  • what tariff they are on
  • what their feed in rate is
  • how much of their own solar they use rather than export

Change any one of those and the number moves a long way. If a customer does not hit it, that is the figure they quote back at you. So a savings number is not just a marketing choice, it is something you would have to be able to defend.

To be clear, this is your call, not mine. Plenty of your competitors do put savings figures up. I just will not put one on your page without you choosing it knowingly.

So here are the two ways I can build it

Option A · my recommendation

Show the value, keep it to facts

The slider shows the federal battery rebate in dollars, which is a real legislated amount, plus an estimated bill offset shown as a range with the assumptions written on screen underneath it.

The customer still gets a dollar figure and a reason to act, because the rebate steps down on 1 January and that is a genuine deadline rather than an invented one. Everything on screen is defensible.

Reads like: "Federal battery rebate on a 13.5 kWh battery: $3,631. Based on a $650 quarterly bill, most homes like yours offset roughly 60 to 80 percent of daytime usage. Your actual result depends on your tariff and when you use power."
Option B

Put a savings dollar figure on the slider

Stronger hook, no question. A number that moves as they drag is the most persuasive thing we could put on that page.

If we go this way I would want to do it properly rather than pick a flattering number. That means your real installed prices from recent jobs, a conservative feed in assumption, and the basis stated on the page. It would be presented as an estimate, not a promise.

What I would need from you: actual installed pricing on your common system sizes, and what you genuinely see customers saving on jobs you have completed. Not best case, typical.

Two other things still open

The form does not go anywhere yet. Right now it tells people to call you on 0404 748 593. I need to know where enquiries should land, whether that is an email address, a CRM or a phone notification.

Pricing. The price led angle is still waiting on your real installed prices. Same request as above, and it feeds both things.

What I need back

Just tell me A or B. If it is B, send me the pricing and the typical savings you actually see and I will build it on real numbers.

And let me know where you want the form enquiries delivered.
